Course Descriptions

                                                     

 

Band 6       

To participate in sixth grade band, the student should have at least one year prior experience in band or at least one year of private music lessons on the instrument to be played in the band.

The sixth grade band meets five days per week for the entire year.  Emphasis is placed on developing and refining the students' performance skills in a large ensemble.  The students are exposed to the total band "sound" including blend, articulation, intonation, phrasing, rhythm and dynamics.  An additional period from the middle core every seven school days is given to section rehearsals.  Small group lessons on band music and other materials are stressed. Students perform in a holiday and Spring concert.

 

Band 7

To particiate in seventh grade band, the student should have at least two years prior experience in band or at least two years of private music lessons on the instrument to be played in the band.  Students new to seventh grade band will have to successfully pass an audition by the band director to be placed in the band.

The seventh grade band meets five days per week for the entire year. Emphasis is placed on developing and refining the student's performance skills in a large ensemble.  The students are exposed to the total band "sound" including blend, articulation, intonation, phrasing, rhythm and dynamics.  An additional period from the middle core every seven school days is given to section reehearsals.  Small group lessons on band music and other materials are stressed. Students perform in a Fall pep rally, tailgate party, holiday concert, and Spring concert.

 

Band 8

To participate in eighth grade band, the student should have at least three years prior experience in band or at least three years of private music lessons on the instrument to be played in the band.  Students new to eighth grade will have to successfully pass an audition by the band director to be place in the band.

The eighth grade band meets five days per week for the entire year.  Emphasis is placed on developing and refining the students' performance skills in a large ensemble.  The students are exposed to the total band "sound" including blend, articulation, intonation, phrasing, rhythm and dynamics.  An additional period from the middle core every seven school days is given to section rehearsals.  Small group lessons on band music and other materials are stressed.  Students perform in a Fall pep rally, tailgate party, Veteran's Day assembly, holiday concert, and Spring concert.

 

 

Wind Ensemble

Wind Ensemble is a select concert band consisting of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade band members.  To be in this ensemble, students will have to audition.  The first playing test of the year is the audition. The ensemble rehearses before and after school.  Students will perform in a holiday concert, Spring concert, and will be adjudicated.

 

Jazz Ensemble

Jazz Ensemble consists of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade band members.  To be in this ensemble, students will have to audition.  The first playing test of the year is the audition.  The ensemble rehearses before and after school.  Students will perform in a holiday concert, Spring concert, and will be adjudicated.
